QUT Voices and Simulation

What: choral music meets electronica
Where: Brisbane Powerhouse, Lamington St, New Farm
When: Saturday 3 June

QUT Creative Industries Music and Sound and the Brisbane Powerhouse present a unique concert event that draws together 1000 years of vocal performance tradition and cutting edge laptop music.  For the first time, the 60-voice choir QUT Voices shares the stage with members of Simulation, the QUT electronic music performance collective in a special event that will connect these seemingly disparate musical practices.

The program includes traditional African works, pieces by Mozart,
Bruckner and Ashley as well as new electro-acoustic pieces by the QUT
Clan Mulch collective.

Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraint 9

From the American filmaker that brought you The Cremaster Cycle, the IMA is pleased to present the Queensland premiere of a new feature film Drawing Restraint 9, which fearures a soundtrack by Barney's co-star Bjork.

Shot in Nagasaki Bay on board the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru, the films' core idea is the relationship between self-imposed resistance and creativity, a theme it symbolically tracks through the construction and transforamtion of a vast sculpture of liquid vaseline called The Field, which is molded, poured, bisected and reformed on the deck of the ship over the course of the film.

Metro Arts presents the video performance Time Memorial by Paul Mumme. The performance is on Wednesday 14th June. Also launching that night is "Seen and not seen" by Shaun O'Connor, an exhibition of photographs capturing public marks and inscriptions.

The Outpost and Blonde Venus present I Used to Skate Once Too, one of the craziest assemblies of contemporary street / visual art ever assembled in Queensland. Featuring artists such as hitness (italy), andy mueller, robert moore, beci orpin, elke kramer, dan templeman, claudio kirac, amber b, elana mullaly, dyms, bo stahlman, j l hegel, james alley, kasino, carmella ruffino, michelle brown, catherine insch, and the list goes on. When: Friday 30 June - Saturday 1 July

Liquid Architecture 7, Australia's premier sound art festival returns to the Brisbane Powerhouse Friday June 30 and Saturday July 1.

The festival features key international and national sound artists and audio sculptors, including multi-instrumentalist and electronica experimentalist Greg Davis (from the Kranky/Carpark labels), field recordist and atmospheric musician Jeph Jerman, Swiss beat deconstructionist Martin Baumgartner, experimental vocalist Donna Hewitt, creator of the innovative software Audio Mulch Ross Bencina, and one of Sydney's new guard of laptop musicians Benjamin Byrne.
