How content is curated at SOOB 2006
Unlike many Major Australian festivals, which are often programmed in a more-or-less dictatorial fashion by an Artistic Director appointed by an unelected Board, SOOB is instead programmed by a community of artistic peers.
This means we don't have a hierachical programming team reporting to an Artistic Director - instead, a community of artists help to decide what goes into the program.
Each year, SOOB appoints a large and diverse group of Content Coordinators across a range of artistic and intellectual disciplines to enable us to curate the broadest and more professionally relevant program possible. Remember that any SOOB member can run for our board and have a say in who is in charge of the organisation.
In 2006, SOOB has again opened up our programming process to the artistic community.
SOOB 2006 PROGRAM MANAGER: Andrew Tuttle
Andrew Tuttle is the 2006 SOOB Program Manager.
Andrew has been a keen contributor to SOOB over the past three festivals, performing at the last two SOOB’s with his music groups Molliger and Anonymeye; and appearing on a panel on music journalism in 2003. In 2004 Andrew co-hosted the ‘Spamdex’ program on 4zzz in 2004, and hosted the ‘Rocket In The Pocket’ shift on EMIT Radio in 2003-04. Andrew has also managed and promoted tours for interstate and overseas artists including Talkshow Boy (Melbourne), Printed Circuit (UK), Barrage (Melbourne) and Francis Plagne (Melbourne); as well as organising gigs for local musicians at venues including The Orient, Fat Louie’s Pool Hall and Paddington Workers Club.
From 2000 to 2002 Andrew created and edited four issues of ‘The Laughing World’ fanzine, which contained interviews and reviews with local, national and international musicians. The last two issues of The Laughing World also contained various artists compilation CDs featuring artists such as Peaches, The Salteens, Screamfeeder, and Oh! Belgium. Since then Andrew has contributed to Rave Magazine (with six months as ‘Dance Culture’ editor), and had his work syndicated to inthemix, Brag and 3D World amongst others.
