Straight Out of Brisbane Festival Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation, incorporated in 2002 under Queensland law.
The stated aim of the festival under its constitution is "to organise a festival for young, emerging and independent artists in south-east Queensland." A short discussion of our mission and philosophies is outlined here .
The organisation is managed by a Management Committee elected by SOOB's members at our Annual General Meeting. The 2005-6 Committee consists of Ben Eltham, Alex Tucker, Simone Eclair, Genevieve Canavan and Matt Fraser. Simone has since resigned.
Unlike many arts organisations who have boards of directors that then appoint management and staff, the SOOB Management Committee is a managing board which retains hands-on, day-to-day management of the organisation.
The Management Committee sets the strategic direction of the organisation, appoints SOOB's other coordinators and organisers, and is generally responsible for carrying out our core mission of organising the SOOB festival and creating on-going opportunities for independent and emerging artists in Brisbane year-round.
The SOOB Management Committee, particularly the Treasurer and Business Manager, is also responsible for the financial management of the SOOB organisation. SOOB has an ABN and the mysterious IA number that non-profit associations are given in Queensland instead of an ACN.
Anyone interested in SOOB is welcome to join the organisation (you have to pay a membership fee) and can then participate in the management of the festival through voting at AGM's and attending Management Committee meetings.
SOOB's financial reports for our financial year ending March 2005 have been audited by Brian Tucker CPA and are available from SOOB Management on request.
